EIA forecasts OPEC crude oil production will rise to an average of 29.4 million b/d in 2021. The OPEC production data in the March STEO include Ecuador, which finalized its withdrawal from OPEC at the March 6 meeting. Beginning with the April 2020 STEO, EIA will include Ecuador’s production volumes in non-OPEC data. This is a list of countries by oil production, as compiled from the U.S. Energy Information Administration database for calendar year 2019, tabulating all countries on a comparable best-estimate basis. Compared with shorter-term data, the full-year figures are less prone to distortion from periodic maintenance shutdowns and other seasonal cycles. The growth in global crude production of the last 2 years came entirely from US shale oil while the rest of world was actually in decline, similar to the period 2005-2007, only starting from a slightly higher level. After all, I hope this work makes clear that nations are heavily interdependent when it comes to oil - the main driver of our global economy.

The United States is the top oil-producing country in the world, with an average of 14.86 million b/d, which accounts for 15.3% of the world's production. This is down from 15.12 million b/d in 2015, but it was enough to land the United States in the top spot, which it has held for the past four prior years. In March 2011, global crude oil production was 73,497 kb/d, slightly below 73,784 Kb/d in March 2005, and practically the average achieved during the last 6 years, which was 73,400 kb/d. We see that the oil “saved” in decline periods (red) was more or less consumed in growth periods (dark blue).
